Refund Policy & Dates
Two primary changes in a student’s status which may require a refund are:
- A change in a full-time student’s schedule which results in reclassification to part-time student status;
- A change in a part-time student’s schedule which results in a class load of fewer hours.
Other situations that may require a refund are dropping a course or courses, withdrawing from the College, cancellation of a class by the college, or death of the student.
The following procedures will be followed in regard to refund of maintenance fees.
If Withdrawal Is….. |
Refund Will Be….. |
After early registration but before the published first day of classes (This is the first day of classes for the college, not the first class day of the individual student’s schedule.) |
100% |
For courses cancelled by the college |
100% |
On the first official day of all classes through the 14th calendar day from the published first day of classes |
75% |
On the 15th calendar day from the published first day of all classes through 25% of the semester calendar days for the term (see school calendar) |
25% |
After the 25% period |
0% |
All refund periods will be rounded up or down to the nearest whole day if necessary. Summer term and 7-Week term refunds will be based on the above procedures with concentrated terms being prorated as a percentage of a regular term.
- A 100% refund will be provided on behalf of a student whose death occurs during the semester.
- A 100% refund will be provided to students who are compelled by the college to withdraw when it is determined that through institutional error they were academically ineligible for enrollment or were not properly admitted to enroll for the course(s) being dropped.
- A 100% refund will be provided, upon submission of required forms, to student absent from the college in excess of 30 days while on active military duty.
The College refund policy is based entirely upon the official date of the withdrawal or change of course(s) which would result in a refund. Refunds beyond the specified dates or percentages indicated in the Schedule of Classes for each semester will not be made for reasons such as employment conflict, health or medical problems, moving out of town, or other reasons which are beyond the College's control or responsibility.
All refunds will be in the form of a check within three to four weeks after the Records Office has processed a Student Change of Course form or the class has been dropped by the student over the internet. If a student initially paid by credit card on the website (myNSCC), the refund will be issued to the credit card account. If the student initially paid by credit card on campus, the student will need to provide credit card information to the Bursar’s Office in order to process the refund since this information is not maintained electronically by the College. Refunds involving third-party payments will be prorated based on the percentage paid by the student and third party involved, including discounts, waivers, or grants. Refund dates will be established for each semester. Summer term and 7-Week term refunds will be based on the above procedures with concentrated terms being prorated as a percentage of a regular term. No refunds will be made for Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) unless the class is cancelled by the College.
If the student believes that a refund due has not been processed within the time period or in a timely manner, either by check or credit card, please notify the Bursar at 615-353-3312. If a refund was processed and mailed and has not been received by the student, the student should contact the Bursar at 615-353-3312 for further instructions. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the Records Office has a current address on file so that refund checks and other correspondence are mailed to the correct address.
