Bridge Project
Often, the best way to learn is by doing. The Intro to Engineering (ENGT1000) class recently put theory in action by constructing bridges using only newspaper and masking tape. The requirements specified that the bridge was to be free standing, tall enough to allow a plastic dishpan to pass beneath it, and able to support ½ gallon of water (4.17 lbs) for a minimum of 10 seconds. The winning bridge supported 40 pounds before collapsing!
