I have been teaching at Nashville State Technical Community College since moving to Nashville from Los Angeles, CA in 1981.  I started as a term contract instructor teaching five courses every quarter and was hired as full time instructor in 1983.  Currently, I am an Associate Professor in the Computer Information Systems program and have taught a variety of courses such as COBOL, RPG, Pascal, Logic & Design, C/C++ and Database Concepts.  I am currently working with a colleague to develop our Database Concentration.

Prior to moving to Nashville I held several different positions in the IT department at Petersen Publishing Co. in Los Angeles, the last one as an applications programmer.   In addition to my teaching at Nashville Tech I have developed relational database software for the State Department of Education, St Thomas Hospital and a local music publishing firm.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University and a Master of Science degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

I am married, I have a daughter and two sons who are too old to be referred to as children although they are still as much fun.  My interests outside of work include music, reading, gardening and traveling.

Michelle Lenox, 615-353-3226
As a native Nashvillian I have always had the utmost respect for the students who graduated from what was initially Nashville State Technical Institute.  In fact, upon graduation from Father Ryan my desire to “learn computers” at Nashville Tech was derailed because the classes were full.

I began my adult association with Nashville Tech in 1990 with the charge of establishing the Computer Resource and Training Center, which has since been renamed the Workforce Training Center.  Since returning to the Computer Information Systems faculty I have taught a variety of classes including Logic & Design, Pascal, Access, Intro to HTML, Dreamweaver/ColdFusion and others.  Most recently my focus has been the establishment of the Systems Analyst concentration.

I have a MBA from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management; a MS from Southern Illinois University; and, a BS from Tennessee State University.

When not working, my time is devoted to my daughter and our rambunctious cat.  Scant “me” time is spent learning to crochet and quilt, working with the Cumberland Valley Girl Scouts, or delving further into my family’s multi-ethnic genealogy.

I am a tenured Assistant Professor in Computer Information Systems at Nashville State Technical Community College. I have attended college for over 20 years and am always open to learning new things.  Because of that I typically teach newer “trends” in IT.  Computer Forensics, XML, GIS and .NET are what I’m currently teaching and/or developing around.

I am a Nashville Tech alum. I also have degrees from TSU, MTSU and Trevecca Nazarene University, as well as I’ve attended ITT, Volunteer State CC, Vanderbilt University and University of Louisville.  Before coming to work at NSTCC, I graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy and was a police officer for 14 years.  I am a member of both Phi Kappa Phi honor society and MENSA.

Currently, I am the Chair of the Faculty Senate.  I am married to an ex-NSTCC employee, Amelia and we have three dogs named Panda, Noomo and Buddy. I attend church and volunteer at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Nashville, where I serve to help my community.

“I LOVE teaching, especially at my alma mater.”
