Retired Naval Officer certified in the operation and maintenance of Nuclear Propulsion Systems, Communication, Radar, Navigation, Sonar, and Computer Systems. An experienced educator with 15 years experience in Higher Education in Business and Computer Information Systems. Currently teaching computer networking and holding certifications as a Novell Instructor (CNI) and network engineer (CNE), and Cisco Certified Instructor (CCAI) and network associate (CCNA), and Network +. A skilled presenter in the areas of problem analysis, critical thinking, evaluation, innovation in education methods, non-traditional education, business data communications. Experienced in network design, operation and maintenance. Currently Program Coordinator for the Computer Networking Technology (CNT) Program.

I received my B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Lincoln University-MO and M.S. Computer Management Information Systems from Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville, IL. I am currently working on my Doctorate in Business Administration- Information Technology. I have also been in the Information Systems field for thirteen plus years. During this time I have held various positions ranging from P.C. support to I.T. Director before making a transition to the academic field. Some of my other interests include working with disadvantaged youth and adults returning to the workforce.

I am originally from Pennsylvania. I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1974. After graduation I moved to Nashville. I have been working at Nashville State CC since 1991, and teaching here since 1996. I have obtained several computer certifications including MCSE, MCT, CCDA, CCNA, CCNP, CCAI, and CFS.


Edward Mummert is originally from York, Pennsylvania. He was recruited by Austin Peay State University and completed a bachelors and masters degree program while attending Austin Peay. He then became part of the faculty for the following eight years. Edward was also actively employed in the music industry as a percussionist during this time. He then continued his education in the computer field, ultimately attaining multiple certifications in Novell (CNI, MCNE, CNE), Microsoft (MCT, MCSE, MCP), Cisco (semesters 1 and 2 certified trainer), CompTIA (Certified Technical Trainer +),. Edward shared his knowledge through Athena Computer Learning Center for several years. He is now an Associate Professor for Nashville State Community Collage and has been a faculty member for ten years.

Edward is involved in the community through donation of his computer knowledge, church and coaching children’s sports. His favorite hobby is racing Sprint cars on dirt tracks throughout the southeast United States. He lives in Goodlettsville with his wife and two children.
