If you can’t come to the main campus to take classes, you have other options. Nashville State’s department of Extended Programs offers expanded access to higher education via distance education technology.  Learning through distance education provides students alternatives to traditional classroom schedules.  This method is extremely convenient for working adults, persons with disabilities, shift workers, those with schedule conflicts, or persons having to drive long distances.

The Office of Extended Programs includes a variety of offerings:

Web-based courses

Nashville State offers a variety of online courses as well an online Associate’s degrees and certificates. The Tennessee Board of Regents also offers Associate’s degrees and two Bachelor’s degrees. You have a choice of more than 100 courses that are offered online.

If you enroll in Web-based classes, you are responsible for completing the Online Web Orientation. You must complete the orientation to understand how to log into your courses.  You must have your "A" Number and PIN number to log into our Web courses. You will receive your set of numbers when you apply to the college. On the first day of classes, log into your course and e-mail your instructor.

Video/CD-ROM checkout courses

Nashville State makes education convenient through video/CD-ROM checkout courses. You have a choice of a wide variety of business, humanities, mathematics, English, social science, history, and photography courses.

If you registered for a Video or CD-ROM Checkout Course, you must complete the Online Video Orientation. Follow these instructions: 

  • View the Online Orientation Clip
  • Complete the Online Student Information Form located within each video instructor’s Web site. You must complete form to be entered in the course.
  • Print a copy of your instructor’s course syllabus.
  • Pick up videotapes at Library on the main campus or the off-site location enrolled by appointment only.

Off-campus Courses

If you still want to take courses in a traditional classroom, we might have a location near you.  Nashville State offers multiple permanent educational sites located throughout Davidson County and the surrounding areas. Each location offers courses for starting or continuing one’s academic or professional development goals.

The Cookeville Campus of Nashville State located at 1000 Neal Street in Cookeville, Tennessee offers specialized training in areas including Computer Technology, Law Enforcement, Industrial Automation, and Electrical Maintenance.

The Humphreys County Center for Higher Education, in cooperation with other higher education institutions, offers day and evening classes for the citizens of Humphreys County and surrounding areas. The Center is located at 695 Holly Lane in Waverly, Tennessee.

The Southeast Center offers day and evening classes in a variety of courses. It is located at the old TPS campus on Foster Ave.

Nashville State will offer general education courses leading to degrees and certificates, as well as college prep courses to prepare students for college-level coursework in Dickson.

High School Programs

Are you interested in taking college classes while still in high school? Nashville State has K–12 programs for students interested in taking college courses while still in high school. To enroll in most K-12 programs, you must take the ACT test and receive a minimum score of 19. These programs include Dual Enrollment, Joint Enrollment, Academically Talented, Tech Prep, and Middle College.

Community Education

If you want to take classes just for professional or personal development, Nashville State’s Community Education Center offers special interest courses for this purpose. These courses are open to all who desire to improve professionally, or to enrich their personal lives. These college-level courses are not part of a Nashville State degree or certificate programs. Most courses are offered in the evening and meet one night per week.
