Nashville State Community College has certain admission standards for students entering the college. When you file an application to enroll at Nashville State, the Admission Office will determine which test you are required to take based upon the following guidelines:

  • If you are under 21 years of age and have a high school diploma, you must have a composite score of 19 on the ACT examination and also sub scores of 19 or better in all areas. Your ACT scores must be less than 3 years old or you will be required to take the placement/assessment test.
  • If you have the GED, you are required to take the placement/assessment test.
  • If you are 21 years or older, you must take the placement/assessment test unless you have college transfer credit for math or English.  Nashville State will only transfer courses with grades of “C” or better.

The placement/assessment test measures a student’s writing, reading, and mathematics skills. Students who have deficiencies in writing, reading or mathematics will be required to take remedial or developmental courses before enrolling in college-level courses.  Remedial and developmental coursework does not count as credit toward your degree.
