NSCC FASTPATH

NSCC’s FastPath is part of a national effort to help students transition from high school to college. Nashville State Community College, The Technology Centers (TTC's) at Dickson and Nashville, and high schools in Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Houston, Humphreys, Montgomery and Stewart counties have agreements that help students begin preparing for rewarding technical careers while still in high school. Credit by Articulation Agreement is a part of this program. High school students should see their principal or counselor concerning enrollment in FastPath.

DEFINITION OF FASTPATH

High school students in Tennessee can select a Career Technical program of study (CTE, Career Pathway) consisting of 3 to 4 related career technical courses. If articulation agreements exist between the high school (secondary level) and a Tennessee Technology Center, Community College, or University (postsecondary level), then the student is eligible to receive benefit (articulation credit) for certain introductory CTE courses at the postsecondary level. As an example, a student who has taken and passed Business Technology courses in high school could be eligible to receive articulation credit for related introductory Business Technology courses at the collge level. The key for students receiving this benefit is that the high school and college instructors have agreed that certain secondary CTE courses contain some of the competencies of related introductory postsecondary CTE courses.

In general FastPath is intended to provide students with an educational pathway that will allow them to enter postsecondary technical education with higher skills in order for the individual to finish their postsecondary education sooner or to finish with higher skills in the "normal" amount of time. The ultimate goal of FastPath is to provide a student the opportunity to complete a postsecondary education through non-duplicative sequences of courses in career fields, including the opportunity for high school students to enroll concurrently in secondary and postsecondary coursework (dual enrollment).
