Student Government Election for 2008-2009

If you have leadership skills and a desire to lead and represent the student body to improve student life on the campus. Holding an office will allow you to use your skills and also to improve your leadership skills. You will represent the student body at various meetings with campus administrators, Tennessee Board of Regents various committees and work with other TBR and regional College Student Body Representatives. Please complete the petition for candidacy and an application to become an officer in the S.G.A. The following positions are available: President, Vice-President, and Secretary/Treasurer. Qualifications required to run for office are:
1. Student body officers shall be enrolled for at least 3/4 of the total number of class hours required for full-time student status and be enrolled for the Fall and Spring terms for which they are elected to serve.
2. Student body officers shall have and maintain a cumulative grade point (G.P.A.) of 3.0 or greater and shall have attended Nashville State Technical Community College for at least one (1) semester prior to taking office.
3. Student body officers shall uphold the principles and standards of the S.G.A.
Duties of the student body officers:
President shall:
A. Uphold the constitution and execute laws and by-laws enacted by the S.G.A.
B. Create an agenda and preside over meeting of the S.G.A.
C. Attend, or designate a S.G.A. member to attend, all college Executive Committee meetings and required TBR meetings.
D. Assist in the preparation of the S.G.A. annual budget.
E. Call special meetings of the S.G.A. if a majority of the Executive branch of S.G.A. deems the cause necessary. A twenty-four (24) hour notice must be given to each member of the Executive Branch prior to a special meeting of the S.G.A.
F. Hold office hours. Number of hours required shall be designated by the Organization Advisor.
Vice-President shall:
A. Assume the office of President of the Student body in the event the President
should become unable to carry out the duties of the office.
B. Act as President in the absence of the President.
C. Coordinate committee appointments as needed by the S.G.A. and the college.
D. In the absence of the President, attend, or designate a S.G.A. member to attend, all college Executive meetings.
E. Assist in the preparation of the S.G.A. annual budget.
F. Hold office hours. Number of hours required shall be designated by the Organization Advisor.
Secretary-Treasurer shall:
A. Maintain accurate records of the minutes, attendance of S.G.A. members, and all meetings of the S.G.A.
B. Maintain a permanent record of the constitution and all laws and by-laws considered by the Student Government Association.
C. Develop and manage the S.G.A. budget with the help from all currently elected S.G.A. Executive Branch members as well as currently elected Student Delegates.
D. Be responsible for all funds of the Student Government Association and maintain accurate records of such funds. (According to the College's Business Office procedures.)
E. Submit a detailed financial report to the S.G.A. and the Student Life Council for inclusion in the annual budget.
F. Serve as the designated Student Life Council member, or appoint another member in the event of an absence.
G. Hold office hours. Number of hours required shall be designated by the Organization Advisor.
