Webcourse Guidelines
Below are basic guidelines to ensure your success:
The guidelines for online courses are the same as guidelines for any Nashville State course. See the Code of Student Conduct in the Student Handbook.
General Web courses have the same student and academic regulations, starting and ending dates, transferability to other colleges, and in most cases, the same costs as a traditional on-campus class.
Attendance
Absences are counted from the first scheduled meeting of the class. A student who does not make contact for two consecutive weeks with the instructor or who violates the instructor's stated attendance policy will be administratively withdrawn from the course and given a grade of "WF" - Withdraw Failure. Absence is defined as failure to login to the course and submit assignments as stated in the course syllabus.
Assignments
In Web-based courses, correspondence and work are delivered via the Web. It is important to remember timelines. If materials are due by a set date and you fail to turn in the assigned work by that date, it is the same as if you did not come to class and complete the assignment or test.
Testing
Your instructor may require that you take a test at the main campus or at an off-campus site near you. The Testing Center is located in the Library. No appointment is necessary. You need to present a picture ID. Arrive at least one hour before the Testing Center closes in order to complete your test by closing time. Remember to bring any materials you will need for your test. No child will be allowed in the Testing Center while his or her parent is taking a test. Click on the following links to contact off-site locations: Main Campus, Cookeville, Humphreys County, Southeast
Center, Dickson.
Textbooks
Generally, instructors will require a textbook for your Web course. In addition, you may have reading assignments from Web sites. You can purchase your books at the Nashville State Community College Bookstore. http://www.cbamatthews.com/nashtk/
Withdrawals
If you need to withdraw, communicate with your instructor first. There may be alternative solutions to your problem, such as additional assignments or perhaps a tutor. To withdraw from a class, use the POWER web system. Refer to the catalog or schedule for the last day to withdraw.
Complaint Procedures
The first step is to contact your instructor to attempt to resolve a complaint. If the issue cannot be resolved, contact the Chair of the appropriate academic department.
Grades
Final Grades are posted electronically. You may get your final grades by accessing POWER.You will need your 6 digit PIN Number to access this information. If you do not know your PIN number, send an email to records@nscc.edu with the subject line "set PIN" and your name, address, phone, birth date, and email address. Allow two working days to receive your PIN. Check with your instructor on how to receive tests and homework grades.
ADA Policy
Nashville State Community College, to enhance accessibility, will make all reasonable efforts to comply with legal mandates. Nashville State has adopted the requirements established by section 508 Subsection 1194.22 of the Rehabilitation Act. These are consistent, well-documented, and achievable guidelines for implementation of Web accessibility. If you have any difficulties in accessing the information given in the course or need further assistance, please contact the instructor or course designer first. If accommodation has still not been met, please call 353-3721 as soon as possible and request an accommodation at the beginning of the term.
Academic Honesty
You are expected to submit only work that you do yourself. Do not collaborate on work with other students unless you are given a group project. Failure to observe these rules could result in your receiving a failing grade or being dismissed from the class with a grade of "F."
