Traffic and parking regulations are established and enforced to the rights and privileges of visitors, students, faculty, staff, and others who operate motor vehicles on the Nashville State campus. Nashville State believes that operating a vehicle on campus is a privilege and not a right. The following regulations and procedures are essential to facilitate safe and expeditious traffic flow of vehicles and pedestrians.
These regulations and procedures can also be found in the Traffic and Parking Regulations brochure attached to each parking decal upon purchase.
- The speed limit for all vehicles is 15 miles per hour.
- Pedestrians always have the right of the way.
- Vehicles must come to a complete stop at all stop signs.
- Loading and commercial zones are reserved for service vehicles.
- Unnecessary noise from horns, mufflers and stereos is prohibited.
- Parking is permitted only in those areas designated for parking.
- Possession of a current decal to which an individual is not entitled is a violation.
- Vehicles may not be backed into or pulled through parking spaces.
- The owner of a vehicle will be responsible for informing others who may use the vehicle concerning campus parking regulations, and will be responsible for any citations issued.
- Bicycles must use bike racks for parking. Bicycles are prohibited from being ridden on campus sidewalks or grass areas.
- Rollerblading and skateboarding are prohibited on campus.
- Retired employees of Nashville State or persons who have been issued a retired or honorary decal may park anywhere on campus except in designated parking areas and disabled areas.
- Vehicles are not to be left overnight without approval from Security.
Parking zones are identified by the color of the parking lines:
- No-Parking Zones
No-parking zones are identified by YELLOW lines, YELLOW curbs, signs or other specific identification.
Students may park in those areas that have WHITE lines.
- Motorcycles and Bicycles
Motorcycles and bicycles may park in those areas designated for these vehicles.
- Faculty and Staff
Faculty and staff may park in those areas that have BLUE lines and in WHITE areas when BLUE areas are filled.
Students, faculty and staff who have a special decal for disabled may park in those areas that have RED lines and have disabled signs posted.
Visitors may park in the spaces that have GREEN lines. Visitor parking is permitted in other areas when space is available. However, a permit must be obtained from the Security Office (Room A-34) or at the Security Station in the Student Services Center lobby if parking is for more than one day.
- No Curb Parking
No student or faculty/staff parking will be permitted along the curbs in front of any of the buildings. Visitor parking will be permitted along curbs with GREEN lines. Students are never permitted to park in visitor parking spaces.
- Group Parking
Security must be notified to reserve group parking.
- Loading and Unloading
Parking on the inside curb in front of the Weld Building is limited to commercial loading and unloading.
- Sunday and Holidays
Parking restrictions will not be enforced on Sunday or school holidays.
- Open Parking after 3:00 PM
There is no designated parking on campus after 3:00 PM Monday through Friday except for handicapped parking. Handicapped parking is enforced 24 hours a day, everyday. Parking is open to faculty/staff and students. Parking restrictions will not be enforced in the back lots between semesters, except for disabled parking.
- Security Notification
In the event that a student or employee drives a vehicle that has not been registered by the Security Office, notification should be given immediately to Security to avoid a citation.
- Semester Breaks
During semester breaks, faculty/staff members are required to park in their designated areas. There will be no parking along the front curb by faculty/staff members during semester breaks.
Visitors are always welcome on the Nashville State campus. Visitors are asked to obtain a temporary parking permit from the Security Office (A-34), or at the Security Station in the Student Services Center lobby if parking is desired for more than one day.
Should a visitor receive a citation for parking violation, he/she should take it to the Security Station in the Student Services Center lobby immediately and it will be voided.
- Backed into a parking space/rear bumper not facing
- Parked too far from curb
- Parked in unmarked area (grass, sidewalks, road, fire
lane, commercial, etc.)
- Parked in restricted area
- Parking in zone other than one designated for
- Parked on or over lines
- No official parking permit or expired vehicle registration
- Parked on wrong side of street
- Obstructing driveway
- Improper display of decal
- Parked within 10 feet of fire hydrant
- Unauthorized parking in disabled zones
- Speeding (15 mph limit)
- Excessive noise
- Reckless driving
- Failure to yield to pedestrians
- Cutting diagonally across parking spaces
- Failure to come to a complete stop at stop signs
- The fines for traffic and parking violations are $10 for each violation, except for disabled parking violations which is a $200 fine. There is a $50 littering fine.
- Students, employees and other violators must pay fines at the Bursar’s Office (Room S-203) during scheduled office hours. The Bursar’s Office is open Monday–Thursday from 8:15am to 5:30pm and Friday 8:15am to 4:00pm. The Bursar’s Office closes at 12:00 noon the last working day of the month.
- Payment of any outstanding fines shall be prerequisite to completing registration for any semester. If an employee's fine is not paid by the close of the semester, the employee will receive an official reprimand from the appropriate administrator.
- Any car, motorcycle, motor scooter, pickup truck, or van parking in a no parking zone, fire lane, disabled space, or parking in zones other than the one designated for their classification, etc. may be towed away at the owner's expense without notice.
- Individuals who receive five (5) or more traffic and parking citations may be towed and barred from parking on Nashville State's campus.
Appeals must be made within 72 hours after the ticket is issued.
Appeal forms are available at the Security Office (A-34) and at the Security Station in the Student Services Center lobby. Appeal forms should be completed legibly with a copy of the citation attached. Citation Appeals should be turned back in to the Security Office (A-34) or to the Security Station in the Student Services Center lobby.
A ruling will be made to DISMISS or SUSTAIN the citation and the result will be mailed back to the student or faculty/staff within 5-7 business days.
Q: Can I use tape to attach my decal from the inside of my window?
A: No. The entire vehicle registration decal must be adhered as designed and may not be taped or attached in a way that allows for easy removal. The decal should be adhered to the exterior lower corner of the rear window on the driver’s side of the vehicle or on the rear bumper on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Decals will be displayed on motorcycles, motor bikes, and scooters in the same manner in a position that can be clearly read by security personnel.
Q: Where do I pay my ticket?
A: Students must pay fines online or at the Bursar’s Office (Room S-203) during scheduled office hours. Employees and other violators must pay fines at the Bursar’s Office. Q: I bought a new car. Do I have to buy a new decal?
Q: Do I need additional decals if I drive multiple vehicles?
A: Yes, you will have to purchase a decal for each vehicle you park on campus on a regular basis. You can't register multiple vehicles under one decal.
Q: How much do additional decals cost?
A: Each decal costs $15.
Q: I have to drive a different car for a few days, what do I do?
A: Stop by the Security Office (Room A-34) or the Security Station in the Student Services Center lobby and ask for a free temporary permit. Temporary permits are good for two (2) weeks only.
