The architectural engineering technology program at Nashville State Community College is designed to provide a broad preparation for this demanding career for those who have just finished high school, those who have been in related careers, and those who desire to change their career. The program offers basic courses in hand drafting and computer drafting and hands-on-application courses that prepare our graduates for working in the architectural and construction related fields. The course work covers the learning cycle used by engineers to solve problems; the relationship between architects and engineers and engineering technicians; fundamentals in drafting; residential and commercial terminology and drafting requirements; the design process; presentation skills; using models (paper or 3-D); testing of materials; construction materials and how they work together; structural analysis; building infrastructures such as: lighting, heating, cooling, emergency systems, water, sewerage, sprinkler systems, and smoke detection and evacuation systems; surveying, specifications and estimating. The program prepares the modern engineering technician to be capable of using computer software to produce drawings, spreadsheet reports, graphs, field reports, proposals, presentations, and for proficiency in the use of computers for communication.
