This comprehensive multi-disciplinary program is designed to train technologists interested in pursuing many different career paths. Students will learn both principle and application of current technologies at use in academic research, commercial research, product development and QC/QA monitoring. Bioinformatics and biocomputing form an essential core component to the program. This program also provides an introduction to complex issues in biotechnology such as Intellectual Property and its ownership, patents and patent protection, and ethical issues associated with new technologies.
In addition to basic courses in general biology, microbiology, generalchemistiry, organic chemistry, statisitics and microcomputing, students will take the following specialty courses:
• BIOT 1010 Biotechnology Applications
• BIOT 1040 Patents, Intellectual Property, Ethics
• BIOT 2020 Applied Biochemistry
• BIOT 2050 Industry & Applied Microbiology
• BIOT 2060 Protein Bioseparations
• BIOT 2070 Cell Culturing
Admission Requirements
Class sizes are limited so early contact with the Program is advised. Requirements for admission into the Biotechnology Program include a high school diploma or GED, high school Biology and Chemistry with a grade of at least "C" or successful passage of BIOL1110 and CHEM1110, or permission of the Program Director.
