CNT Advising Sheet

Computer Networking Technology is the science and technology of connecting computers together.  In addition to hooking up the cables, it also involves configuring the computers and other devices that make up a network.  The Nashville State Tech CNT curriculum includes designing the layout of the network, and making sure it is secure from invasion.  The types of networks investigated range from small home-office networks to large multinational networks that span the globe.

Students in the CNT program will take courses ranging from basic hardware and operating systems, to Microsoft, Novell, and Unix/Linux server configuration, to Cisco devices and networking, to computer and network security.  All classes have a significant hands-on component, and in moving through the curriculum, a student will progress from basic computer usage to building and troubleshooting a multi-platform network.

The CNT curriculum prepares the student to take the exams for several industry certifications, including A+, Net+, Security+, Cisco CCNA, Microsoft MCP, and Novell CNA.  In addition, a rich selection of electives allows the student to increase the breadth and depth of their understanding.

Typical job titles for graduates of the CNT program include LAN administrator, network administrator, microcomputer support specialist, network technician, and data communications technician.
