Associate of Science in Teaching (AST) Degree Programs

The Associate of Science in Teaching Degree is a two-year university parallel degree that will provide smooth transition from a Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) community college to a TBR four-year university and eliminate the need to take additional courses.  The student earning the AST will be prepared to enter the teacher education program at the four-year university as they will have already completed the general requirements that a student must meet prior to being accepted in a teacher education program.

These requirements include:

Upon transferring to a four-year university, the student will need to revise the portfolio to be in compliance with the four-year university portfolio format and complete the university interview process that is a standard part of admittance to a teacher education program.

The Associate of Science in Teaching (K-6) is the first AST degree to be offered through the community college system.  It is designed for people desiring to teach kindergarten through sixth grade.
