Nashville State Community College

General Information

The Mathematics and Sciences Division at NSCC offers a wide variety of math, biology and physics courses, which may be used for transfer credit or to support one of the college’s degrees or technical certificate programs. We offer courses required for the Associate of Science and Associate of Arts degrees for those students that will transfer to a university. We also offer courses that support the Associate of Applied Science and Technical Certificates offered by other divisions at the college.

We are located in the Jane G. Kisber Memorial Library Building in Suite K-240.

In addition to supporting the college’s mission, we are committed to fostering a learning environment and providing a strong math and science foundation for our students.

Vision Statement

Our vision is to be the first choice in middle Tennessee for educational foundations in mathematical and scientific thinking.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to foster a community of learning that will effectively meet the math and science educational needs for the population we serve. We will continuously adapt our teaching strategies and technologies to the requirements of the students, employers, and educators involved in the process.

Areas of Emphasis

We offer four Areas of Emphasis in the division. Click on the program area link to view information regarding the programs. There are course suggestions for those interested in a particular program, advising checklists, links to course descriptions, and faculty biographies.

In addition to the Areas of Emphasis, we also offer developmental mathematics courses which allow students to practice the necessary algebra skills that will be needed for college-level math courses as well as other transfer courses. Students that should take these courses are determined by ACT scores. Upon successful completion of our developmental math courses, students will be prepared to enroll in college-level math.
