Meet the Advisors

Our student success advisors are here to mentor and support first-time, full-time students as they begin their college careers at Nashville State.

Dr. Justina Rogers

Director of Student Success Center and Nashville GRAD

Justina Jones Rogers, Ed.D. serves as the new Director of the Student Success Center & Nashville GRAD Program at Nashville State Community College (NSCC). Dr. Rogers was raised in Nashville, TN, completed her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and Political Science, a Master’s degree in Student Affairs at Florida State University, and her Doctor of Education in Higher Education Leadership and Policy at Vanderbilt University. Before joining NSCC, Dr. Rogers served as the Associate Director of the Center for Academic Retention & Enhancement (CARE), in which she provided preparation, orientation, and academic support programming for students who are among the first in their family to attend college. Additional experiences include academic advising, grant management, recruitment, and college counseling. Overall, her passion includes creating access opportunities for students to complete their higher education goals, as well as support their retention and graduation.


Stephanie Flores

Stephanie Flores serves as the NashGRAD Coordinator to promote student success and achievement. Originally from southern California, she completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology as a community college transfer student with California State University, Fullerton. Her Master of Science in Educational Counseling was awarded by the University of La Verne and she continues to enjoy new learning opportunities for personal and professional growth. Before joining Nashville State Community College Stephanie served as program manager for Cypress College developing and implementing educational partnership programs with K-12 school districts, higher education, community agencies, and industry partners. Other experiences include secondary and post-secondary educational counseling, healthcare administration, and event management.

Nejib Adem

Nejib Adem is a Student Success Advisor at Nashville State's Southeast campus. He has a B.S. degree in International Relations and an M.A. in International Affairs with a concentration in Security and Peace Studies from Middle Tennessee State University. Before joining Nashville State, Nejib was a Department of Justice Accredited Immigration Specialist with Catholic Charities of Tennessee, where he helped immigrants and refugees navigate the complexities of the immigration system. His passion is supporting cross-cultural understanding and serving as a resource for students at all stages of their success journeys. In his spare time, Nejib loves reading, writing short stories, and researching issues related to African and Middle Eastern politics, forced migration, refugees, and asylum seekers. He is thrilled to join Nashville State Community College as a member of the advising team and is eager to make a lasting impact on our students.


Breanna Butler

Breanna is a native of Columbus, Mississippi, where she completed a B.S. in Public Health Education and Human Science at the Mississippi University for Women. She then completed a Master's of Education in Student Affairs in Higher Education and Leadership from the University of West Alabama. Breanna started her career in case management, working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and impaired motor skills. She then transitioned to being an advocate for young adults and adolescents with learning disabilities and behavioral disorders. During her time at Nashville State, Breanna has worked in both Admissions and Career Services, helping students with their college journey and career goals. Her passion lies in motivating others and ensuring they succeed. She believes the most important aspect in advising students is my commitment to value their individuality and choices. Breanna enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite quote is, "Failure is not the opposite of success. It is part of success."


Raúl D. Colón Moreno

Raúl was raised in Humacao, Puerto Rico, and attended the University of Puerto Rico, Humacao for his undergraduate studies. He moved to Nashville in 2008 to pursue graduate studies in Physics at Vanderbilt University, obtaining an M.A. After graduate school, he worked in the service and entertainment industry at Red Door Saloon in Nashville, working in every position in the bar/restaurant finding a home with fellow employees and a broad range of individuals and groups. With the desire to return to the academic community and assist others in need of guidance in their academic and career goals, Raúl joined Nashville State Community College as a Student Success Advisor in late December 2021. As a former student, community college instructor, graduate teaching assistant, graduate research assistant, and service industry professional, Raúl wishes to combine the skills developed in these areas to help students realize their intrinsic worth and their own potential, and help them change and advance their own lives. During his time off, Raúl enjoys going for long walks, listening to progressive rock music, and watching TV shows.


Fred Frazier

Fred Frazier Jr. is a Student Success Advisor focusing on Adult Learners who are Reconnecting with post-secondary education utilizing the Tennessee Reconnect Scholarship Grant at Nashville State Community College. Fred helps to develop the best career path, assist in research strategies, and motivate adults to enter and complete post-secondary education schools to gain the education needed to enhance skills leading to successful new career opportunities and personal growth. He served in the US Navy for 20+ years in various positions, specifically as a Certified Career Counselor and Master Training Specialist and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Healthcare Management from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale while on active duty. Fred enjoys cooking, the beach, and spending quality time with family. His personal Motto: "Your Dreams Won't Work Until You Do!"


Lindsay Hager

After moving to Nashville in 2010, Lindsay started back to school at Nashville State Community College. Upon completion of her associate degree from NSCC, she transferred to Belmont University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science and public relations. While attending classes she also began working for Nashville State as a program assistant in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department. Because Nashville State is a place she holds very dear, she is passionate about her new advising role in the Student Success Center that helps make it possible for students of all ages and backgrounds across Middle Tennessee to reach their educational goals. She is currently enrolled in a Master of Education program in Higher Education Leadership with a concentration in student personnel services at East Tennessee State University. In her free time, Lindsay enjoys playing with her dachshund Ziggi, rooting for the Vols and Badgers, trying new restaurants, and cooking.

Jared Irvine

Jared is excited to join Nashville State as a Student Success Advisor. He previously worked with students at a local high school as a Personal Counselor and most recently as a College Advisor where he assisted high school seniors with their post-graduation plans. When working with others he enjoys getting to know the students, assisting students as they identify their passions and goals, and celebrating their successes. He credits his relationship with a lifelong mentor that now shapes how he supports and encourages others. On the weekends you may see him on the trails, greenways, or blueways around town while hiking at Radnor or Percy Warner, biking at Shelby Bottoms, or canoeing on the Harpeth. Jared received a Business Degree from Lipscomb and Counseling Degree from Trevecca.


Dawne Moore

Dawne Moore

Dawne Moore is an Army retired Master Sergeant who served over 28 years in various positions and is now a Student Success and Veterans Advisor for the Clarksville campus. Dawne has a decade of experience in advising and coaching young adults to set goals and create milestones to reach their individual goals. Before joining NSCC, Dawne was a career skill coach and administrator at the Fort Campbell Career Center. In this position, she advised and counseled soldiers, spouses, and family members about different career programs and communicated with them from the start to the end of their transition to ensure they were successful. Her passion lies in motivating others to seek resolutions to overcome emotional and behavioral barriers to be successful. Dawne's favorite hobbies are reading, watching movies, and listening to music. Favorite quote: "You may only live once, but if you do it right once is enough." (the author is unknown)

Eric Morgan

Eric started at Nashville State in 2017 as a Career Counselor and transitioned into the Student Success Advisor role in Summer 2019. His past experience includes academic and career coaching for the Arkansas Works initiative and GPS Office at Belmont University. Eric holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Lyon College and a Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt University as well as certifications as a Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) and Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW). In his spare time, Eric enjoys cooking, marathoning the latest TV shows, and driving through scenic Tennessee.

DeAndrea Patterson

DeAndrea began her career with Nashville State in 2016 as a Technical Clerk. She excitedly transitioned into the role of Student Success Advisor for the Dickson and Humphreys County campuses. In this role, she serves as a trusted mentor for students aspiring to attain their academic goals and helps to implement strategies to promote educational excellence. She encourages students to develop skills and motivates them to achieve success in many areas of their life. DeAndrea believes that everyone needs a “cheerleader” in their corner to help accomplish their highest potential. She is a graduate of Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Sciences. Her favorite quote is Carpe Diem, “Seize the Day”. In her spare time, DeAndrea enjoys cheering for the Tennessee Titans, cooking, making arts and crafts, and spending time with her husband, kids – Olivia, Haley, Austin, and dog Jax.


Maegan Puzas

Originally a Boston native, Maegan received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Mount Holyoke College and has lived in Nashville for the past 3 years. Maegan has always had a passion for helping students succeed and reach their full potential and she is looking forward to her time here as a Student Success Advisor at Nashville State Community College. She has worked for several years as a mentor and student success advocate, with most recent experience as a Completion Coach for tnAchieves (partnering organization for the TN Promise Scholarship). In her spare time, Maegan loves to travel the world, write poetry, cook, and spend quality time with her partner, beagle, and 2 cats.

Brent Smith

Brent Smith is originally from Houston, Texas. He proudly served in the United State Military for nine years and 11 months, with two of those years being in Iraq. After having the value of an education drilled into him from an early age, Brent graduated with a B.A. and M.A. in History. He began his career with Nashville State Community College in 2016 as an adjunct history instructor and is now proud to be a Student Success Advisor.


Alissa Thacker

Alissa Thacker is a Student Success Advisor for Nashville State's Clarksville campus. She is a 2018 graduate of Nashville State Community College, where she earned an A.A. in English and an A.S. in Sociology. In 2021, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Austin Peay State University with a B.A. in English and a B.S. in Philosophy and Religion. She is now pursuing an M.A. in English with a Linguistics concentration at APSU. Alissa began her career at Nashville State's Clarksville campus in 2018. There, she worked as a Technical Clerk in the Admissions department before accepting a position as a Student Success Advisor in January 2022.
