Nashville State Community College honored with House Joint Resolution No. 339 for expansion into Donelson community
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 11, 2017) – The Tennessee House of Representatives recently presented Dr. George H. Van Allen, President of Nashville State Community College, with House Joint Resolution No. 339. The resolution commends Nashville State on recent accomplishments including “its dedicated service to the State of Tennessee, its future service to the citizens of Donelson, and its continuing commitment to excellence in higher education.” Representative Daren Jernigan, Representative John Ray Clemmons, and Senator Jeff Yarbro served as sponsors of the resolution. Representative Jernigan, whose legislative district includes the Donelson-Hermitage area, said, “We are thrilled that Nashville State is opening in the Donelson-Hermitage area. This will allow our citizens to continue their education and contribute to the quality of life they want and deserve. We are looking forward to Nashville State being a community partner and having their graduates contribute to our local and regional workforce.”
In a continued effort to expand access to higher education and provide enhanced workforce development for Davidson County residents, particularly in lower served areas, Nashville State purchased the former ITT Technical Institute campus located at 2845 Elm Hill Pike in February and will offer courses there starting this fall. The East Davidson campus will be the third Nashville State campus in Davidson County with plans for a fourth campus located in Madison scheduled to open in the Fall of 2018. “The new campuses are a result of decades of budget reallocations.” Dr. Van Allen said. “Nashville State is committed to the prosperity of Davidson County and its citizens. We have followed our words with action or, if you prefer, we put our money where our mouth is.”
Nashville State offers a quality, affordable education through associates degrees and 1-year certificate programs for nearly 10,000 students at locations in Nashville, Antioch, Clarksville, Dickson and Humphreys County.
