NSCC Names Kathleen Akers as New Director, Clarksville Campus

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 23, 2017) – Dr. George Van Allen, President of Nashville State Community College, announced today the selection of Kathleen Akers as Director of the Nashville State Clarksville campus. In making the announcement, Van Allen stated “We are fortunate to have Kathleen join our staff as Director of our growing campus in Clarksville. Kathleen is a valuable addition to the Nashville State family, and will help to continue to build the Clarksville campus into a mainstay of the community, both educationally and civically.”

Ms. Akers holds a bachelor’s degree from Austin Peay State University and a Masters in Management with a concentration in Human Resource Management from Troy University. She has a long history of working with communities in a higher education setting as well as assisting active duty soldiers and their dependents, which is an asset to Clarksville’s higher education offerings. Prior to joining Nashville State Ms. Akers worked for Troy University, where she was responsible for the management of Troy’s Clarksville location. While at Troy, Ms. Akers opened one of Troy’s first eArmyU offices. Her success with establishing this site led her to open a new site for Troy in Elizabethtown, KY which provided services to online students in the Fort Knox area. Ms. Akers resides in Clarksville. An active member of several community groups and organizations, Kathleen is currently serving as the Treasurer of the Clarksville Sunrise Rotary, Secretary of the Mid-South Advisory Council of Military Educators, and as a board member of Manna Café Ministries. “I am excited to join Nashville State and continue my work to support students in Clarksville and the surrounding area on their journey to achieving their academic and career goals,” stated Ms. Akers. “I look forward to growing the partnership between the Nashville State Clarksville campus and the community.”
