New NSCC Vice President Terry Brown
Nashville State Community College Names Terry Brown as Vice President, Academic Affairs and Student Services
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 26, 2017) – Dr. George Van Allen, President of Nashville State Community College, announced today the selection of Dr. William “Terry” Brown as Vice President for Academic Affairs & Student Services. In making the announcement, Van Allen stated “Terry is a valuable addition to the Nashville State family, and he will greatly contribute to the academic development of our student body. We are fortunate to have Terry join our administration as we continue to serve our community’s education and workforce demands.”
Dr. Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a Minor in Secondary Education from the University of Florida, as well as a Masters in Clinical Psychology and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Delaware. Dr. Brown also brings an impressive history of community college development to Nashville State. Prior to joining the Nashville State administration, Dr. Brown served as the Acting Dean of Academic Affairs at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, Connecticut. While at HCC, Dr. Brown was responsible for the pedagogical, curricular, and administrative activities of over 320 full and part-time faculty members. Dr. Brown also served HCC as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs following a time as the Director of Behavioral & Social Sciences Division at Naugatuck Valley Community College. Before transitioning into higher education administration, Dr. Brown served on the faculty of Norwalk Community College in Norwalk, Connecticut, rising to the rank of Associate Professor.

Dr. Brown’s primary clinical interests lie in serving minority, underserved, and marginalized youth and their families. Dr. Brown’s research interests include investigating the relationships between psychological and social development and educational risk and resilience, and examining the impact of mental health and educational policy on young peoples’ development and educational engagement.
