New Partnership Prepares Learners for Surveying Careers Through Certified Technician Program

Nashville State Community College’s Center for Workforce Development and Continuing Education, in partnership with Barge Design Solutions, has developed a framework for and is offering an entry-level Certified Survey Technician (CST) course designed to help learners grow in the construction industry.

The 16-hour Level 1 course runs:

Tuesdays and Wednesdays
6-8 p.m.
June 23 to July 15
Workforce Training Center
East Davidson campus
2845 Elm Hill Pike, Nashville

CST is a comprehensive national certification program for survey technicians, sponsored by the National Society of Professional Surveyors. Certified Survey Technicians (CST) work with licensed professional surveyors to collect land measurements, map terrain, and process data for construction, boundary, and engineering projects.

Four levels of certification in the program are offered across two primary tracks: field and office, with each level building off the other.

Office track:

  • Level 1: Entry-level position
  • Level 2: Computer operator
  • Level 3: Chief computer operator
  • Level 4: Survey office manager

Field track:

  • Level 1: Entry-level position
  • Level 2: Instrument person
  • Level 3: Party chief (boundary or construction)
  • Level 4: Survey field manager
