Eligibility, Application, and Selection Process

Please read the following before applying to the Surgical Technology Program.

Fully admitted to Nashville State Community College (declare Health Science A.S. as major).

  • Applications must be renewed each June to be considered for the following year.
    • Spring Admissions: All pre-requisite courses must be completed by previous summer semester.
      (effective for applications to Spring 2028 program).
    • Fall Admissions: All pre-requisite courses must be completed by the previous spring semester.

      (effective for applications to Fall 2027 program).

  1. Complete the application process to Nashville State Community College (declare Health Science major).
  2. Apply to the Surgical Technology Program (applications open year-round; must be renewed each June).
  3. Offers will be sent to email address submitted on your Program Application.
Seats in the Technical Certificate will be filled based on the following:
  • Successful completion of optional SURG coursework (there are NO prerequisite classes).

• SURG 1304
• SURG 1305
• SURG 2310

  • Grade Point Average in any optional coursework completed at time of application.
NOTE: Background checks and/or drug screenings are required by clinical sites as a condition of participation in the Surgical Technology A.A.S. program. Completion of the National Certification Exam is a graduation requirement of the A.A.S. in Surgical Technology program."
